What to Expect from Therapy
My History and Experience:
I graduated from Arizona State University with a B.A. in Psychology, and obtained my Masters Degree from Chapman University, specializing in Marriage, Family and Child Therapy. I have been practicing in this field for over 18 years. Currently I enjoy being a Clinical Supervisor for the Boys and Girls Club in Garden Grove, teaching in the masters program at the University of Phoenix and maintaining a private practice. As a practitioner in this field, I have had extensive training and experience in working with hundreds of families with children / adolescents as well as couples and individuals dealing with interpersonal, relationship conflicts and parenting issues. I have extensive experience working with people just like you, let me help you start to make the changes you want today.
The Therapuetic Relationship:
Entering into therapy is often a hard decision, and it is important to know what to expect from the experience. I believe therapy is not a magic pill or "quick fix". Therapy is a collaborative approach between the client and the therapist. Just like good health comes from leading a balanced life including appropriate food and exercise, good mental and emotional health comes from fueling ourselves with positive interactions and strenghening our interpersonal skills. When you enter into therapy I will help you explore solutions to the problems and challenges you are facing. Feeling comfortable with your therapist and feeling safe during treatment allows you to build a level of trust to open up and change negative patterns of behavior and thought patterns that effect daily interactions. I provide a warm, caring and safe environment that will help you to begin to heal and discover the solution to your problems, by focussing on promoting growth through change and empowerment. Couples Communication / THRIVE
I also facilitate Couples Commincation workshops. This workshop can be taken seperate from any therapy or in addition to it. I offer 2-day workshops as well as 4 sessions over a month (i.e. four sunday afternoons). The cost is determined by the workshop site, or if you want to add it to your regular sessions, the cost covers the materials. I also also offer THRIVE as part of my communication for couples which is an online collaborative relationship inventory you and your partner take seperatly then we can compare the scores in your regular counseling sessions. Corporate Training
Please call me if you need support with motivation or working through difficult professional issues. I offer corporate training to address specific employee needs as well as motivating your current team to reach its full potential on a daily basis. Call me and we can put together a specific training just for your site. Trainings can be a one time engagement or an on-going goal oriented devlopment plan.
